I have been fighting this for so long. Really, I have. It just seems like everyone in the free world (and the not-so-free) has a blog and if everyone is creating one then who has time to read them? I don't. And besides, how interesting are all of these people's lives anyway? I mean, really, I'm not some guy in the Middle East talking about being transgendered and how rough that makes his/her life. THAT is a post that seems important. I'm just this dude in California who earns his living as a writer. Well, okay, I guess that is kind of important. God knows it ain't easy.I guess I've just always felt that if I had the time to be blogging then that time would be better spent trying to sell articles and make money so that I can buy a house. Or make my car payment. Or go out on a major weekend drinking binge and happily know that I could lose a day of work on Monday since I'd already spent so much time working the previous week. And really, drinking seems far more important to me than blogging.
But then I sold my first book Mondo Homo: Your Essential Guide to Queer Pop Culture and now I'm trying to sell the second and even though Mondo is doing very well the entire world doesn't know who I am. Pity. So my agent (I love saying that) thinks a blog might help my career. Either that or he's freaking out because he signed me on as a client and now thinks I don't have the writing chops to get the job done and is hoping a daily rant will somehow improve my literary skills. Who know? I choose to be a glass-half-full sort of guy and think this is all for publicity.
So here you go. I shall now begin posting things around three times a week. Please let me know your thoughts, either from e-mailing me at my website rick@richardandreoli.com, or posting comments here. I appreciate it.
Friends in Christ,
Rick
