Random Celebrity Moments Last Week

Here's the back of my friend Troy Williams' head. He works for Warner Bros. and went to the Happy Feet premiere. His hed has now been featured in today's Daily Variety
Sweet! On to other stuff...

"Hey, can you spot me?" asked Walton Goggins last week; he plays Detective Shane Vendrell on The Shield and we both work out at Easton Gym in Hollywood.

A lot of celebs work out at our gym at one time or another. Nicholas Brendon (Xander from Buffy The Vampire Slayer) does, and Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Patrick Dempsey from Grey's Anatomy all did at some point during the years I've been there. Sometimes they make return visits, which is always exciting. Oh, and Montel Williams is there whenever he's in town. He wears full spandex leggings and a weight belt, but he's very friendly.

Wow, I haven't dropped that many names since I first moved to LA and thought it was important. Well, why stop while we've got a good thing going?

You know who also worked out there last year?

The lovely Katee Sackhoff from the hit SciFi show, Battlestar Galactica. Last year, before Steve and I bought the house, I got this urgent call from him saying she was signing up. Naturally I threw on my gym clothes and shot down there to get a look. So cute and girly in real life. Love her.

We actually have mutual friends with Katee, since we know Michael Rymer, a producer/director for Battlestar, but I was too shy to say anything.

Perhaps we scared her, though, because I heard last week that she's at LA Fitness in Miracle Mile now. We are all sad.

But even through our sadness, it's good to know that Los Angeles is teeming with heroes. For example, Green Lantern-- or at least the voice of him, Phil LaMarr. Phil also did the voice of Samurai Jack and tons of other cartoon characters, as well as being in the early seasons of Mad TV. We've met a couple times-- at Comic-Con in San Diego and when I was taking classes at The Groundlings-- and he's always a really great guy. I ran into him as we were buying our comic books at Golden Apple. This is one of two major comic stores in LA where all the creative types go for collecting or researching projects.

And speaking of heroes, or at least the show Heroes, Hayden Panettiere who plays the cute cheerleader lives in a building down the street from Steve's brother (Jeff) and his partner (John). I'd tell you where that is, but I know there are some psycho fans out there and she's not really invulnerable so I should do my part to protect her...

But that doesn't mean we won't be staking out Jeff & John's front patio with a cocktail waiting to see her and invite her up for a drink or 10.

Oh, and I'll have more celeb news about Jeff and John's new condo later in the week.

But while we're on the topic of Heroes and the brothers-in-law (or however you define that in-law thing for fags), we took a walking tour of the Broadway theaters downtown this past Saturday through the LA Conservancy. Now the show Heroes is actually shot here, and for New York stuff they mostly shoot downtown and then CGI landmarks into the shot. For example, in the opening episode, Peter Petrelli jumps off the old Warner Bros. theater next to the giant "Diamonds" sign (it's now a jewelry store, which is horrible but that' s a topic for another day.)

But at the corner of Grand Avenue and 7th, you can spot the Nathan Petrelli campaign offices! We took a picture with John's cell phone-- Steve's and my camera finally died-- but I haven't gotten a copy of it yet.

Seriously, huge banners with actor Adrian Pasdar's face in the window, the whole thing. I don't know how long they'll keep it there, but it's pretty cool.

Suffice it to say that as long as they're shooting New York footage for the show, they'll be in downtown and you can probably get a glimpse of them in action.

That's it for today. Back to writing telenovelas.
