This is Aliki and Baron. Aliki is the animator friend of ours that I mention a lot. She has her short
Yaki & Yumi being produced at Nickelodeon and-- BIG NEWS-- just sold her new short
Girls On The Go! to Nick as well. Steve and I have seen the storyboards and it's a super cute show. I can't wait to see how it develops.
Anyway, Baron is Aliki's fiance and he works at UCLA where they held Nickelodeon's Kid's Choice Awards on Saturday night. They invited us to attend. FUN!
Let me point out, there is nothing that will make you feel older than going to a show where you don't know any of the talent that the young girls are screaming about. Like Britney Spears' little sister, or some guy who I thought was Paul McCartney's son but wasn't, and learning that Romeo and Bow Wow dropped the "Lil'" while my back was turned; they're still kind of small, by the way.
I was surprised at the amount of inappropriate boobage at the event. Lots of moms flashing the fun bags in these slinky tops. Unfortunately, I wasn't fast enough on the camera to snap any. Next time I shall be prepared.

Here are the Wayans Brothers-- yes, they're still around, but it's been so long since they did anything that the announcer had to reference
White Chicks. What was really lame about the event was those giant video screens in the back rarely showed who was speaking so we didn't get good sightings of Cameron Diaz, Justin Timberlake, Jessica Alba or any of the other people. Sadness. It was clearly a show made for broadcasting and not for the immediate enjoyment of those in the audience.

One of the most genius moments happened after Lindsay Lohan won for Best Female Movie Actor (or something like that) and all the girls screamed and she got up on stage and disappeared when she turned sideways because she's lost so much weight.
But that wasn't the funny part.
After she accepted the award, Pink performed her hot new single "
Stupid Girls" and if you've seen
the video then you know she makes fun Lindsay, Paris Hilton, Jessica Simpson and tons of those ladies who offer up bad images to young girls; needless to say, I don't think many of the young girls in the audience got the message. But maybe one or two. We can pray.
It was pretty awesome seeing Pink rock out-- and the monitors deliberately NOT showing the back up dancers who were dressed to imitate those female celebs. I have to say, Pink was our favorite part of the show.

Here are clips of Chris Rock from when he got the "Wanna Be" award; as in, kids wanna be like him when they grow up. He was funny about it, actually. He said he wanted to be Eddie Murphy when he grew up and here he was, a cheap imitation. Nice. But come one Chris, give yourself some credit. If you picked up a tranny on Santa Monica Blvd., you'd know what you were picking up!
The best speech of the night was Will Smith, who won for Best Movie Actor. He talked to the kids about making good choices in life, and hanging out with the right kinds of friends. It was REALLY smart and well done, and I'm only annoyed that not a single other celebrity used this moment to convey an important message to the kids. I give Will a ton of respect for that.

Anyway, then there was the party! And here is Steve getting carded. It was the only time it happened that night.

And here is the dessert buffet. There was other food like pizzas, quesadillas, Burger King, slushies, ice cream and yummy kids food. And beer and wine. Aliki, Steve and I easily made our way through to the back of the tent (kids have not yet learned that when attending an event you must always cut to the back of the venue because those bars/food stations have fewer people). We basically tried one of everything, which was fantastic. And we were still hungry when we got home. There's a shocker.
Stars pretty much stayed in the VIP area, but...

Nelly came out. I tried to tell him I was, too, but his imposing security guards stopped me.

There's Macy Gray, but she was either looking for her child dancing or her dealer. She was not in a good mood. But she looked fantastic!
Then we got a gift bag, went home and slept. It was 8:30. Kids can be so exhausting.
