The "Slippery Slope" Argument

I've had ignorant people leave comments on the blog saying that if we want marriage equality then we obviously want siblings to marry or (even worse) to marry our pets.

Here's the thing:

I've never met one gay who wanted to marry his or her underage sister. But I've seen plenty of Mormons do it.

Think on that, bitches.

Romach, its dangerous to say you "hate" Mormons when I think the leadership of the church is a much better target. There are plenty of Mormons around the world who are horrified by what the church leaders in Salt Lake City have done and continue to do. If our cause is going to bear fruit, we need to be smart and focused on who our true enemies are.

I am sorry for using such strong words. I have just experienced so much of their antics back in Ireland and other religious groups too. It just gets me so angry and many others too and because of that it is hard to focus. But like you say we have to and indeed focus on who the true enemies are. Sorry if I offended you. :-)

I couldn't believe 8 passed. It's eerily similar to the times not that long ago when mixed race marriages were against the law. The rhetoric used is the same.

It's not the Mormons I hate, it's their leaders who set the doctrine. As with any form of religious extremism, things get taken way too far. Remember that 70% of blacks that voted, voted YES. This is because their churches told them to. Over 50% of hispanics voted yes as well. Does this mean we hate the blacks and hispanics and thus taking our society back several years? NO. It's a matter of re-educating the public. I think the reason NO on 8 lost was because we were preaching to the choir instead of doing outreach to the communities that were preached to by the religious with money.

One of the downfalls of being an opinionated blogger is that we open ourselves up to the public. And there are those people around who like to spew hatred anonymously online. It's because they're too cowardly to do it publicly. Just don't give their hatred a voice or a platform.

It's amazing that we can have our first black president, but we still think that gays getting married is wrong. What's wrong with any two consenting adults making the decision to spend their life together? Thy should all be protected by the law and allowed to celebrate their union publicly. And they're worried we'll ruin the sanctity of marriage...haven't they done that already? Look at the divorce rate...

Keep up the good work Rick! Keep fighting the good fight!

I apologize for my comments being interpreted as racist in anyway. That certainly is not the point I wished to have made. My point was directed more towards the opinions that were coming from the pulpit, regardless of race, or exact religion.
