Halloween Trapeze Show Tonight

Woke up at 5am.
Have to work a 1/2 day in costume-- because that's what they do at offices.
Already exhausted wishing this work day would end so I could be hanging upside now.

See you tonight.

Gay Weddings: Sean & Matt

Sean & Matt: 4 1/2 years together
Married October 15, 2008
Married at the "No on 8" Campaign Office, Los Angeles, CA
Sean is a writer/director, most notably of the film Socket, and a wonderful friend whom I wish I saw more often. Here's what he wrote about his and Matt's wedding:

"We technically got married that day, but we're not having a ceremony until April. Thus the t-shirts and baseball cap in the photo :)

Isn't it strange now saying, "Married," and realizing that we're at the top. There's no higher level of relationship in which to aspire. It feels really great, and foreign at the same time. We're still getting used to it :)"

Well said, my friend.

The election is coming up. VOTE NO ON 8 and stop the evil people who are currently sending out blackmail letters to companies who are trying to defeat this hate-filled proposition. Read the facts, volunteer, make the right decision.

Halloween Trapeze Show CRISIS!

Okay, it's not a "crisis" per sex, but I felt like I needed a really DRAMATIC headline. So here you go.

There is some minor drama, though.

As you know, we're performing aerial circus trick this Friday, for the West Hollywood Halloween Carnival. We're on the main stage, at San Vicente, from approx 8:15-8:45, right before Chelsea Handler gets crowned Queen of the Carnival. Good times.

Six advanced students are doing a semi-synchronized trapeze routine in the show-- three guys would perform, then three girls-- and I'm one of the guys (in case you weren't paying attention).

So yesterday I got a call from our rigging guy. Turns out, they can only put up two trapezes on the stage. Maybe some silks (like the ones I'm climbing on in the attached pictures). But only two traps.

This means we had to do a little flipping (so to speak). Since I do comedy in the middle of the guys, and the beautiful and bendy Jessica does comedy in the middle of the girls, she and I are now paired up.

Here's a pic of Jessica from the last showcase. Yes, she is hanging from a bar like that. What the picture misses, is that right after this she hangs from one hand. She's amazing. And cute. It's a good thing.

Our segment is now going to be pretty hilarious if we can really combine our two characters. By the end of last night's rehearsal I felt really good about it, and I think the audience is going to love it.

We're wearing 1930s bathing suits and camping it up pretty big.

More rehearsals tonight. Let's pray it all comes together (and that I look good hanging upside down in a skimpy bathing suit-- yes, I'm begging for compliments).

If you're going to hit the Boulevard, let me know.

Gay Weddings: Dave & Larry

Dave & Larry: 6+ years together
Married October 16, 2008
Beverly Hills, California
Larry is a brilliant artist who also creates custom action figures. Dave is a major book buyer for Virgin Megastores (I'm sure he has a fancy title--in my world he runs the entire company).

Larry said this in his email to me: "It feels great to have the state recognize our union. BIG plus was the judge who married us looked like Tyra Banks' mom. Yay marriage!!!"

Vote NO on Prop 8; there are still things you can do between now and the election to stop the religious groups who are lying and blackmailing innocents in order to get this law passed.

I Was Hit On Yesterday

There's this cute little girl who works in Customer Service, and every day at around 3pm she comes to the kitchen where I am making a fresh pot of coffee and we chat. Nothing major, just the "How's your week going?" sort of thing. This is what happened yesterday:
CUSTOMER SERVICE GIRL: You dressing up for work on Halloween?
ME: I am, but I won't be going to the party.

CSG: So we won't be having a drink together?
As I answer, I notice her eyes slowly moving over my body, but and down my shoulders, arms, and hands. I ramble.
ME: No... This is going to sound kind of odd, but I'm performing at the West Hollywood Carnival. I take trapeze classes so I'll be hanging upside down in the air and it would be dumb to do that after drinking.

With a seductive look.
CSG: Well, if you need a massage after, you hollah.

I laugh, trying not to sound freaked out and rude. She smiles with a little naughtiness in her eye and exits.

Now here's the thing: I'm gay, and there is NO fooling anyone. I talk it, talk about it, look it, and am seriously the gayest thing this company has ever seen. Then I realized something: she had checked out my wedding ring and must have thought I was straight.

Thank God for the sanctity of straight marriage. I hope she votes No on Prop 8 so there can still be some excitement in her life.

Troy & Craig's Wedding - part 2

This was the scene at Troy & Craig's wedding. They got married in a courtyard surrounded by rooms as you can see in the pic. There were some straight people partying on their balcony, but when the wedding started they politely stayed quiet and watched. Seriously.

Then in the top left corner room, two (presumably) straight guys with gay bodies came out in towels. We saw them figure out what was going on, then one of them kept trying to come closer to the edge. His friend tried to stop him. Too late...

This asshole drops his towel and exposes himself to everyone at the wedding-- 3 TIMES!

Steve is not a fighter, but he immediately said, "He's on the seventh floor, corner room. We should go..." Everyone also had rocks for a new-agey part of the ceremony; Amy and I almost threw ours. The wedding kept going, unphased, and the three wedding coordinators were on it.

The best news? ASSHOLE GETS ARRESTED. Yes, these guys were not only kicked out of the hotel but taken away by West Hollywood Sheriffs for indecent exposure. Nice.
On to funnier moments, the wedding theme was "Seasons of Love" and at some point a blizzard machine shot fake snow outside the ballroom. Steve, Amy and I all took turns getting into the chill. Unfortunately, I don't have a pic with Amy-- it's on her camera-- but here are Steve and I shivering.

In celeb news, we sat a few seats down from Hayden Panettiere and Milo Ventimiglia from Heroes. We sat across from a woman on CSI and her super cute fiance (have to say, Troy and Craig know some sexy people). Unfortunately, Eva Longoria was in Texas supporting her charity and couldn't attend (she and Troy have been BFFs forever); this was sad for Steve and I because we know she would have loved us.

We did run into friends Seth and Michael. Michael wrote on Fashion House with me for a day (literally) but he's also a comic book collector, we discovered many mutual friends during our brief stint together, and immediately hit it off. This was Steve's first time hanging with them, but he loves them now as much as me and we vowed to continue hanging out.

None of our pics with Troy or Craig came out. Too blurry. (Drunk much?) Fortunately, they did a photo shoot that would make Brad & Angelina proud, and images of the happy (arty) couple were posted throughout the wedding, so Steve and I posed with them.
You gotta love a gay wedding. Whether it's a small event like ours or a big event like this one, the gays know how to do it up big.

VOTE NO ON PROP 8! Gay weddings celebrate love and mean a better economy for California!

Troy & Craig's Wedding - part 1

Steve and I attended our friends Troy and Craig's wedding on Saturday. Kind of a hilarious and yet lovely day.
The wedding was held at the London West Hollywood, a swank space right off Sunset Blvd.
Funny girl Amy Witry offered to let us change at her room. We didn't take a ton of photos though, because we brought with us the last four remaining Tab Energy Drinks left in the United States. Amy gave these to us as part of our wedding gift, and we thought it was only appropriate that we shared our favorite drink with her.

That said, here's the view from Amy's room, with the entire city of West Hollywood spread out before us. It was a lovely place to sit and enjoy a cocktail... or 5.

Before the wedding, tragedy almost struck. Amy brought two dresses so we could help her decide which one to wear. We chose a sexy, strappy number, but as we zipped her up it wasn't (How do I say this?) fitting quite well. Indeed, I had to pull both sides together while Steve zipped, and Amy's back was doubled over.

"Oh my God, it's not fitting," Amy said, the pitch in her voice rising. "It looks like an ass crack between my shoulder blades. And seriously? I'm sweating down my ass back crack!"

In a panic, Steve immediately sat on the couch and began eating some Doritos we'd brought with us.

"Is it not zipping up?" she asked, tears seconds away.

"It's not zipping up at the moment," I said, the voice of calm, "but we're working on it."

Then I looked at the dress, with Amy's head between two straps, and I thought with my Project Runway voice, "That doesn't look right..."

Turns out, Amy had her head through the two straps that were supposed to simply go over one shoulder. We fixed it, laughed a lot (throughout the entire night), and went to the wedding.

Heroes, nudity, and a snow storm followed. More tomorrow...

New CD for Dance Music Lovers & Our Weekend Plans

We've mentioned our friend, DJ Scotty K, many times on this blog, but there's some new big news in his life...

Scott mixed the new Global Groove: Live 4 CD, and it's doing amazingly well. Click the link to have a listen.

Scott is also touring a number of cities on the Global Grooves Tour to promote the CD. Check out Scotty's MySpace Page (and become his friend) to see his upcoming dates in Pennsylvania, Boston and Denver.

WHAT'S UP FOR THIS WEEKEND?
Steve has a lot of work to do on Saturday and I have a meeting with the trapeze people to lock in our performance. Then Saturday evening we have our friends Troy & Craigs' swank gay wedding (the boys are pictured here). The event is rumored to be celeb studded-- a Hero or two, a Desperate Housewife, perhaps some TV detectives or investigators-- who can say?

Our friend, funny girl Amy Witry, will also be there so with her help we should have some great stories and perhaps a picture or two.

Then Sunday, friend DJ Billy Carroll from New York is out visiting with his partner, Mitchell, so we're having brunch. Just an FYI-- it's not like Steve and I know a ton of DJs, we know 2-- Scotty and Billy-- but they're all on our minds this weekend.

Be safe and tune in for new on Monday.

Halloween Trapeze Performance

Want to watch me fling myself around like a stuffed sausage? Well, now's your chance.

We finally heard back from the City of West Hollywood and they've asked Cirque School LA to perform at their giant Halloween Carnival.

For those who have never been, the city closes off Santa Monica Blvd., sets up a couple stages for bands and performances, and everyone comes dressed in costume. It's packed with thousands of people drinking, dancing, and partying it up.

Truth be told, Steve and I usually avoid WeHo like the plague on Halloween-- too many straight families who aren't in costume coming to watch the craziness. Very lame. But with Halloween being on a Friday there's hope that the Hollywood types will come out in force with extravagant costumes and impromptu performances this year.

And here's the real fun for us (besides having two weeks to plan a show): We'll be on the Main Stage from 8:15pm-8:45pm, just before Chelsea Handler is crowned Queen of the Carnival. So it's a prime time slot, AND we can go drinking after.

I'm already wondering what I'll wear AND freaking out at the same time.

Gay Weddings: David & Steve

David & Steve: 19 years together
Married October 4, 2008
Anaheim, California
I met David when I was 15. He was the first gay man I ever spoke with, and he showed me that we could be educated, handsome, and normal.

As a side note... One of the gifts he and Steve were given? The Nightmare Before Christmas candlesticks my Steve designed. (Friend Pam is the woman who introduced me to David years ago, and since David and his Steve are big Disney fans, and Pam knew about my Steve's work, she bought the new couple the candlesticks.)

Sunday's "No on 8" Fundraiser

We were on Sunset Blvd. heading toward the Heroes & History Makers (No on Prop 8) fundraiser at the Mondrian Hotel, when I noticed Farrah Fawcett in a black Porsche next to us. Traffic was horrible. She looked over at Steve and I, smiled, pointed to see if we'd let her cut in front of us-- duh, of COURSE we would-- and she quickly merged then shot down La Cienega.

Sadly, she wasn't going to the same party we were.

But the party last night was a huge success, very crowded, which is amazing because the religious haters have dumped millions of dollars into the Yes on 8 campaign and we're really behind in the polls.

While we were there we ran into Kathryn Joosten, who plays Mrs. McClusky on Desperate Housewives, Chad Allen, Eric and Janet McCormack, Heather Tom, and Loni Anderson. I'm sure other people showed up, but that's who we saw.

Just to give you some background for No on 8's money situation, here's what my friend Chris, the Executive Producer on the progressive Stephanie Miller Show, said in a recent email:

The Yes on 8 people are flush with cash. They are funded by many out-of-state megachurches and by huge organizations like Focus on the Family. They have so much money that they're even buying airtime on Progressive Talk stations like KTLK-AM 1150 here in Los Angeles (the station I work for). And, there's not a thing we can do about it because Federal law states that radio stations must take political advertising, no matter what it's for.

The account executives at my station have contacted the No on 8 people to see if they wanted to advertise and were told that they just didn't have the money to take out radio advertising.

Okay, Maybe We Are Old

On Tuesday night I woke up at 3am and couldn't get back to sleep. A little writing rejection combined with a possible trapeze performance and lots of crap at work kept me awake.

As a result, when Wednesday came to a close I called Steve and said I couldn't handle the porn party and wanted to just go home, watch Project Runway and go to bed. Which is what I did, and I feel MUCH better this morning-- so good, in fact, that I was able to go to my "Fags on Bags" boxing class.

What this means, however, is that there are no photos of Steve and I with Randy Blue (whom we've known since before he became Randy Blue) or any of his fetching models. Sad for you guys, I know-- but at least I included the invite so you can pretend you were a part of the magic.

WHAT TRAPEZE THING IS GOING ON?
We're in talks with the City of West Hollywood to perform on Santa Monica Blvd. this Halloween. Yes, pros from Cirque du Soleil, Cher's Vegas show, other pros... and us students. If it happens I think it will be amazing fun, but I'm a a tad nervous and wishing they would decide soon.

If you know anyone at the city, put a good word in for us.

And, of course, if we are there I'll let people know so they can come and scream and throw crap at me when I'm hanging upside down by my ass. Good times.

Gay Weddings: Jeffrey & Beau

Jeffrey & Beau: 13+ years together
Married September 26, 2008
San Francisco, California at the City Hall

Amidst the hate-filled ads conservatives are sending out, lying to voters about the "horrors" and "lawsuits" gays and lesbians will inflict upon the state, or how churches will somehow lose their tax-exempt status if gays can marry... LOVE STILL ENDURES!
And guess what happens when conservatives lie? The people believe them, and now we're behind in the polls.

Go to No on 8. Make a button like the one above, proudly displaying your years together. If you're single, they have an option for you as well. Show your support (it doesn't have to be a monetary donation). Every bit helps.

Weekend Happenings (It's not that we're old...)

It's not that we're old, but after all the insanity of the wedding we've been trying to keep things a little chill. So Friday night we had brothers Jeff & John over for an easy dinner-- where we got to use our new Fiestaware (this isn't it, I just needed a picture).

Saturday it was supposed to rain. I love rain in LA because it cleans the air and makes huddling indoors feel fun. I also had some freelance work due (my restaurant reviews for Metrosource), if the weather is going to be rainy anyway I might as well be inside doing something useful.

It did rain, but not that much. I had my office door open, waiting for the clouds to drop their load, but it only sprinkled in our neighborhood. I heard it rained in other places, but for some reason the clouds were scared of the east side.

Then my MacBook Pro broke down. It did a software update but when it rebooted it wouldn't let the keyboard work. So I spent the afternoon on the phone figuring out the problem.

Upside? While on the phone I was able to do laundry and make a delicious marinara sauce. I just wonder what the customer service people were thinking from all the strange noises emanating over the phone.

Saturday night we then had the joy of visiting Crate & Barrel to spend some of our wedding gift cards. We got 10% off anything that wasn't purchased from our gift registry. There's truly nothing better than spending money and not worrying about how it's going to hurt your wallet.

Now it's back to work. Big stuff this week: changes to the blog, porn party on Wednesday, and a new possible trapeze event. Stay tuned...
